Obtained his Doctorate in Management (1984) from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. He is an engineer with an MTech (1979) in Chemical Plant Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Warangal, and BTech (1976) in Chemical Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology.
He has more than 25 years of professional experience in teaching, research, and consultancy. He has served as a research executive in Mode Research Pvt Ltd, Calcutta (1982-84) and as manager in-charge of Management Development and Services with SPIC Ltd, Chennai (1985-91). He has taught at XLRI, Jamshedpur (1984-84), IIM Bangalore (1991-96), IFMR Chennai (1998 - 2006) and Great lakes Institute of Management, Chennai (2008-2010), besides serving as visiting faculty to a number of business schools in India and abroad including University of Buckingham, UK (1993), Texas Christian University, USA (1999), California Polytechnic State University, USA (2003-05) and American University of Armenia, Armenia (2006).
He is the recipient of the Most Motivating Faculty Award during two consecutive years (1994-95 and 1995-96). His book `Marketing in the New Millennium' won the DMA-Escorts Award for the Best Management Book of the Year 1999. He also received Chanakya Innovative Leadership Award and Amity Academic Excellence Award in 2012.
He is currently the Director of IIM Ranchi.
Dr. Ramesh Sharan
He is PhD in Financial Management and currently working as an Associate Professor, University Department of Economics, Ranchi University, Ranchi. He is teaching Economics to Post Graduate students since 18/11/1978 till date. Major papers taught are Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Economics of Health, Education and environment, Economics of Agriculture, Quantitative techniques.
Eight students are working for PhD on the topics of poverty, hunger, displacement, livelihood, education of socially unprivileged sections of the society particularly tribal, Economics of Health and Economics of Corruption two have received PhD degree under his supervision.
Major research areas has been tribal development, displacement, Rural livelihoods, land alienation, Poverty, Hunger, Technology Adoptions, Drought, Traditional Governance and Exclusions .
More than thirty articles published in national and international Journals and books that include Economic and Political weekly, Indian Journal of Labor Economics, Social Change, International Agricultural Economic association, Down to Earth etc. He has been a regular contributor to local newspaper on development issues.
He is currently member of the state MNREGA Council and advisor to UNDP sponsored JSLPS, Special SGSY and State NRLM. He has worked on number of research projects for UNDP, UNICEF, Oxfam, PRIA and CWS. He has important inter Collaborative project with IRRI, Manila and Rutger University, US. He is on the board of a number of important NGOs in state.
